How does being queer inform your work?

It gives me a unique perspective when it comes to empathy and representation. Because I'm an under-represented entity, I strive to create equity.

What are your favorite pieces of queer visual culture?

I am deeply inspired by the queer experience of the late 70s and early 80s - I was raised around that time in a very queer-friendly home. My aunties were all men in drag and many of them started to get very sick and died off during the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. As such, the pop art of the late 70s/early 80s like Keith Haring and Andy Warhol always move me because it takes me back to that time in my life; when my inner child was most happy and her happiness was taken away by a disease nobody cared to deal with because only "queers" got it.

Which other queer people inspire you?

My queeroes are Tim Gunn, Andy Warhol, Robert Mapplethorpe, Keith Haring, Billy Porter, Basquiat, and Armistead Maupin.
