How does being queer inform your work?

Being queer and having grown up in a high control, authoritarian religious environment, I have much more empathy for people of all backgrounds. I know that life is highly nuanced and absolutely nothing is black and white. I love exploring what core emotions and experiences are driving people's actions.

What are your favorite pieces of queer visual culture?

Currently, it's a poster created by Sophie McMahan also known as Dreaming of Johnny. The poster is 60's themed with otherworldly imagery. Prominently featured are the words "Lesbian Socialist Republic" which mockingly references a pro-patriarchy website, Fathers for Life, and statements by Pat Robertson of "The 700 Club" fame that claim the feminist movement is a "socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians."

Which other queer people inspire you?

Billie Eilish :) I love her music and being almost the same age as her, she lets me know that I can be doing excellent creative work even now at such a young age.
