How does being queer inform your work?

Being queer means being ambitious, strong and and prideful. I've learned from my upbringings that standing out is inevitable, and moving forward I should continue to embrace it. My work highlights my will to grow and learn as a designer. I am constantly making mistakes and learning how to navigate through life by experiencing .

What are your favorite pieces of queer visual culture?

My favorite piece of queer visual culture is any art that makes straight people feel the need to take a second look and question themselves. I love it when I can finally relate to a piece of art that illustrates my life experiences as opposed to the heteronormative standards of pop art.

Which other queer people inspire you?

I grew up surrounded by entertainment through YouTube and power rangers. There was no queer representation through power rangers, but I did watch the Try Guys! Eugene was asian, and so was I! Already, I saw some representation in popular media, and it helped me feel like an actual piece of the demographic puzzle I was a part of. When Eugene came out, he released several videos that inspired me. Both of my parents are immigrants from Asia, and the struggle of fitting under certain norms just for the sake of tradition caused a lot of stress and pressure onto my future. Eugene was a window towards a normal life for me in Los Angeles, and hopefully I can feel that way anywhere around the world as well.
