Queer Design Club

I am a product designer who also happens to be a gay latina living in the Pacific Northwest.

How does being queer inform your work?

Being queer means belonging to a community of individuals with diverse backgrounds and privileges. Understanding and appreciating what makes us different makes me a stronger designer when thinking about the user experience. Knowing that design solutions are strongest when you engage with your users and understand their motivations and goals.

What are your favorite pieces of queer visual culture?

I love artists like Martine Gutierrez and Graciela Iturbide who play with folkloric imagery and gender performance in latino culture.

Which other queer people inspire you?

My lesbian great aunts. Thanks to them I grew up with relationship role models I could relate to, an easier coming out experience, and a hand me down copy of Rubyfruit Jungle.
