I'm a gay designer & illustrator, engaged to my partner of 9 years- currently working for the YMCA. Love inclusion and diversity projects.

How does being queer inform your work?

Being LGBTQ helps guide my thought process when creating work to ensure inclusion and diversity is at the core of what I create. Specifically with the YMCA, I am a brand designer. Part of being involved with a non-profit organization that focuses on community and our commitment to equity for all means making conscious efforts to include and represent those we serve in our community at all times. The Y has a saying that we are "for all" but "for all" changes every day, and to truly ensure we are meeting those needs we have to stay vigilant on the path to progress. When I am creating work, and helping to market products or messages, I hold myself accountable for using my whiteness and privilege that comes with it to be an amplifier of the voices who have harder times getting their messages or ideas heard.

What are your favorite pieces of queer visual culture?

I'm not entirely sure I understand how this question is worded, but what comes to mind is a book written by Matthew Riemer and Leighton Brown called "We Are Everywhere. Protest, Power and Pride in the History of Queer Liberation." It's a book filled with stories, photographs, posters, buttons, PRIDE swag and more throughout LGBTQ history.

Which other queer people inspire you?

Billy Porter, Dan Levy, Lena Waithe, Ellen Page, Jim Parsons, Samira Wiley, Sara Ramirez, Guillermo Diaz, Rutina Wesley, and more.
