How does being queer inform your work?

Being non-binary means living in the space between two assumptions. This perspective helps me see the gaps in knowledge and service when we assume everyone falls into the most common classifications. It's also meant I have to stand up for myself and take up space when it isn't readily provided. These features make me better able to ensure the products I contribute to aren't excluding people, accidentally or not.

What are your favorite pieces of queer visual culture?

I'm most drawn to street art. I've been a huge fan of Lauren Ys since I first saw one of her murals in Long Beach, California. Her work is ethereal, flowing, abstract, sexual, and somehow both clean and dirty simultaneously. Both meticulous and erratic. Optimistic and rebellious.

Which other queer people inspire you?

Alok Menon, Indya Moore, Margaret Cho, Tig Notaro, Lena Waithe, Mae Martin, Hannah Gadsby, Sam Jay, Jonathan Van Ness, James Somerton, Princess Weekes, Megan Jayne Crabbe, ohmygodImnotgonnarememberthemallhere
